RECYCLABLE GREENLEAF

Recycling-ready plastic laminate Albéa is proud to announce that its Greenleaf 2 tube has passed successfully the two tests set by the US-based Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) to assess recycling-readiness. The APR tests ensure that packaging such as the Greenleaf 2 tube are recyclable and compatible with HDPE bottles recycling streams and are thus ready to join an existing, efficient recycling process. Greenleaf 2 has also been certified by Circpack Suez as recyclable with no impact on the HDPE rigid plastic stream in Europe (when collected). It has been awarded A++ level which means that the pack can be easily upcycled. Greenleaf tubes are patented all-plastic laminate tubes for oral care as well as personal care and OTC pharma brands. These tubes can be manufactured by Albéa in its American, European and Asian industrial facilities. Greenleaf 2 offers a lower environmental impact than standard aluminum-based structures. Its barrier web ensures optimal formula protection for all applications. The mechanical properties of its strong structure and coming-up-soon PE flip-top and screw caps could even withstand the removal of secondary packaging. Albéa was the first cosmetic packaging company to sign the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment from the Ellen McArthur Foundation in October 2018. This in effect commits Albéa to making 100% of its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025, as well as reducing plastic usage where relevant and including Post-Consumer Recycled resins where possible.

Paper Kiss

Current lipsticks are used to be in plastic. OVAL SHAPE LAMINATE TUBES: OVATION

An elegant oval laminate tube 10% larger communication surface for visual impact on shelves and online. The tube is easier to stock and transport larger quantities as it requires 20% less surface to stand alone. Very comfortable handling with similar stability to that of the cylindrical tubes. Combined with Perfectiseam technology - the new, flat-to-touch side seam which allows 360° printing and is very discreet to the touch. Ovation tubes allow great formula protection. They are available in ABL and PBL and Reflexion for brilliant metallic effects and bounce back properties. The tubes are available with convenient dispensing systems, such as flip-top caps for diameter 50mm and 35mm. The diameter 35mm version is available with screw caps that can be metallized for an extra elegant look. The diameter 50mm Ovation tubes have a ledge inside the cap that avoids water staging inside the cap. The Ovation offer is ideal for shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, foundation, make-up, hand and body care.

TEARDROP TUBE

The tube to dispense trendy liquid formulas. The TearDrop tube is a lighter and more resistant packaging compared to glass bottles. It targets the on-the-go use. This one-stop supplier solution provides an optimized supply chain. The tube is completely designed and produced in Europe: applicator from Albéa Lodz Components from Poland and tube from Albéa Schesslitz Germany. The Teardrop is Ecocert compliant. Sleeve is fully customizable according to customer needs: mono, coex, aesthetical coex and Purefoil. This all-in-one pack is great for serum, foundation and oily formulas.

Anthelios: a cardboard tube

Albéa produces the innovative and eco-designed sun care packaging of La Roche-Posay. La Roche-Posay, the dermatological skin care brand from L’Oréal group, innovates with a new generation of eco-friendly packaging: a partially cardboard-basedtube. The new moisturizing sunscreen body lotion of the Anthelios range protects the skin from the harmful effects of the sun, marine life and the environment. As a result of an ambitious co-development between L'Oréal and Albéa, the tube packaging, integrating cardboard, is designed as an alternative to the various packaging solutions currently used for cosmetic products. The use of plastic is reduced by 45% compared to existing solutions. The plastic is replaced here by FSC-certified cardboard. "We have adapted our manufacturing process to incorporate this new technology, replacing part of the plastic in the tube with cardboard. This is a first," says Barbara de Saint-Aubin, Managing Director of Albéa Tubes Europe. The development of this cosmetic tube is the first step, achieved in record time, of future cardboard tube launches between L'Oréal group and Albéa.

Timeless - PCR laminate tube range for the US market

Albéa is extending its portfolio of responsible packaging solutions with Timeless, a range of PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) laminate tubes for cosmetic products, combining weight reduction and recycled plastic. These new eco-design tubes are manufactured in Albéa’s Shelbyville plant using less material and incorporating around 30% recycled material in total. The sleeve itself is made of 60% recycled plastic reducing the carbon footprint by 17% in comparison to other recycled tubes. “Timeless is a new milestone towards our objective of lowering the environmental impact of our tubes and contributing to a circular economy of plastics,” says Caroline Hughes, Marketing Manager Tubes. “This range is the perfect blend of eco-responsibility and performance: While consumers can notice and feel the particular texture of the PCR, the tubes are specially designed to meet all the requirements of the cosmetics industry.” Thanks to its supple haptic, Timeless allows a high restitution rate of the formula avoiding waste. In addition, the high light barrier properties guarantee best protection of the formula while the superior moisture barrier makes it the perfect tube match for shower, shampoo and sun care formulas. During the development of the new range, special attention was paid to the aesthetic requirements of the cosmetic market. Albéa’s 359° printing process creates a high-quality printable surface enabling a wide range of decoration options.

Glam' Tube is now responsible!

The 2-in-1 tube! Let us introduce the responsible version of Glam’ Tube, the 2-in-1 tube for mascara, gloss and concealer. Manufactured by our teams in Albéa Zhongshan, China, Glam’tube is now available with 36% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material. The cap is available in PP integrating up to 80% of PCR to lower its environmental impact. Market first: Albéa’s EcoFusion Top

EcoFusion Top – fusion of tube head and cap for unrivalled weight reduction With the introduction of EcoFusion Top, Albéa is going a step further towards responsible packaging: The two-in-one solution allows more than 80% weight reduction compared to standard head+cap solutions providing 55%* weight reduction for the whole tube compared to standard tubes. By designing a single open-and-close system and reducing the tube’s components to only two, Albéa makes EcoFusion Top a first on the beauty market and a new milestone in its product roadmap. “Reducing plastic use through weight reduction is a top priority in our responsible tubes roadmap”, says Caroline Hughes, Marketing Manager Albéa Tubes. “As a single-component open-and-close breakthrough system, EcoFusion Top is the most advanced solution in weight reduction on the market. In addition, less plastic in the packaging means a smaller carbon footprint and a reduced environmental impact.” EcoFusion Top is made from HDPE to guarantee mono-materiality and recyclability. This two-in-one system will be available with various sleeve options such as bestselling Greenleaf for laminate tubes and the Thin-WallTM technology for extruded tubes. Basic Cap 100% PE

Albéa launches its new range of Basic Cap flip-top caps in 100% PE version. After the Slim Cap PE version launched this summer, this cap comes as an addition to the range of single-material tube solutions provided by Albéa, thus taking another step towards its objective of 100% recycled packaging by 2025. The PE Basic Cap, combined with a PE sleeve and head in PE too, produces a single-material tube that can be processed in existing rigid HDPE recycling streams. The entire packaging is processed into PE recycled plastic granules ready to be reused for other applications. Single-material packaging thus contributes to maintaining the good quality of the material from its recycling stream. The PE Basic Cap is a clickable flip-top cap. It is compatible with the entire range of laminate and plastic tubes with a diameter of 30, 35, 40 and 50mm. The Basic Cap is available in Europe only. The Slim Cap PE is one of the lightest caps on the market, an eco-designed model that combines the weight reduction of the packaging with its recyclability. It is available with a 50mm diameter, also in laminate or plastic tubes. “With these two models of PE caps, we can offer our customers a choice of single-material recyclable tube solutions, helping them to differentiate themselves and achieve their packaging recyclability objectives” Caroline Hughes, Marketing Tubes Manager at Albéa.
