LVMH Beauty inks partnership with Origin Materials for sustainable packaging

A partnership between French luxury group LVMH and US-based Origin Materials will see LVMH Beauty secure sustainable, carbon-negative PET for use in its perfume and cosmetics packaging.

As it works towards its goal of zero plastic from virgin fossil feedstock by 2026 outlined in its LIFE 360 strategy, LVMH’s beauty arm has inked an agreement with materials company Origin Materials. A multi-year capacity reservation agreement relates to the purchase of carbon-negative PET that will be used in LVMH’s cosmetics and fragrance packaging.

“Origin’s bioplastic technologies are playing a crucial role in helping LVMH achieve our sustainability targets without any compromise on quality,” said Claude Martinez, Executive President & Managing Director LVMH Beauty, in a statement.

The partnership with Origin Materials is the latest in a string of initiatives from LVMH Beauty when it comes to sustainable cosmetics and fragrance packaging materials. Last month, it announced its membership of the PEFerence consortium. Spearheaded by Netherlands-based renewable chemistry company Avantium, the consortium aims to industrialise PEF (polyethylene furanoate) for use as a sustainable packaging material.
