Balmain and Evian’s limited edition sustainable gown

Paris Fashion Week saw the collaboration between French luxury label Balmain, and natural water brand, Evian, who presented their limited-edition haute couture gown made from plastic waste at the Balmain festival.

The sustainable couture gown was designed and created by Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s renowned fashion designer and artistic director. The dress is constructed and woven out of a fine monofilament yarn crafted from recycled Evian plastic bottle waste.

The iconic gown was inspired by the “magnetic pathway of a whirlpool” with a modern twist. Rousteing plays with volumes and exaggerations while utilising the sculptural potential of the innovative, eco-friendly, and repurposed cloth. To increase the dress’s ever-changing aquatic sheen, pleating techniques were used in its construction.
