Refillable glass lipstick by Chanel

The French house presents 31 Le Rouge: a lipstick in a square, faceted glass case containing an interchangeable aluminium refill, inspired by the mirrors in Gabrielle Chanel’s flat on rue Cambon.

The tube, made by a Japanese glassmaker, required four years of development to achieve the mastery, finesse and strength of the glass needed to meet the demands of lipstick.

I didn’t want an ounce of plastic in this object. I wanted to look to the future. To create a glass lipstick was a dream. I worked with one of our manufacturers in Japan. Nobody else was capable of making it like that, neither in France nor in Italy. It took a long time“, says Sylvie Legastelois, Chanel’s Director of Packaging Creation and Graphic Identity.
