Refillable glass lipstick by Chanel
The French house presents 31 Le Rouge: a lipstick in a square, faceted glass case containing an interchangeable aluminium refill, inspired by the mirrors in Gabrielle Chanel’s flat on rue Cambon.
The tube, made by a Japanese glassmaker, required four years of development to achieve the mastery, finesse and strength of the glass needed to meet the demands of lipstick.
“I didn’t want an ounce of plastic in this object. I wanted to look to the future. To create a glass lipstick was a dream. I worked with one of our manufacturers in Japan. Nobody else was capable of making it like that, neither in France nor in Italy. It took a long time“, says Sylvie Legastelois, Chanel’s Director of Packaging Creation and Graphic Identity.
