Amcor’s CleanStream® technology recognized by Luxe Pack in Green Award
Amcor has won a Luxe Pack in Green Award for its CleanStream® recycling technology. Presented at Luxe Pack in Monaco, the awards celebrate one of the most innovative initiatives in sustainable development for beauty packaging.
The winner in the CSR Initiative category, CleanStream, mechanically processes domestically recovered household waste polypropylene (PP) into packaging for contact-sensitive applications. AI technology delivers high levels of polymer purity that can be included in greater percentages in all types of packs, particularly those which demand a high degree of aesthetics and/or functional performance, such as beauty and personal care.
CleanStream offers the benefits of consistent physical properties and good aesthetics to enable beauty brands to develop attractive, high-impact packaging with a lower carbon footprint than using virgin polymer. As well as meeting increasing consumer demand for more sustainable packaging, this also helps companies meet the requirements of legislation such as the Plastics Packaging Tax and PPWR.
“We are delighted to receive this prestigious award, which is a testament to the technical skills and commitment of the entire CleanStream team,” said Arnaud Amouroux, vice president of sales beauty & wellness at Amcor. “The objective behind CleanStream was to create the ideal post-consumer recycled PP that could be made available at scale to meet the growing demand from companies throughout the UK and Europe. It is already being used for several leading brands, confirming our belief and investment in the technology.”
Amcor’s CleanStream facility in Leamington Spa recycles nearly 40% of all the collected and sorted PP waste in the United Kingdom. Leveraging Amcor’s global footprint and leading supplier partnerships, the company has secured access to 50,000 tons of UK curbside collected PP waste annually – or more than 1 billion individual packaging items – to address its customers’ sustainability objectives on a global scale. CleanStream® adds value to the commodity of waste PP by keeping resources in use and out of incineration, landfill or the environment.
