06/01/2022 This month, AWANTYS Group introduces AWYOCEAN – primary cosmetic and perfume packaging in plastics collected from the oceans. The launch follows several months of thorough testing as well as supply chain development and complements a series of sustainable product innovations by AWANTYS.
“We are convinced that AWYOCEAN as a sustainable differentiator at the POS provides a true added value to our clients. Its contribution to sustainability is threefold: Firstly, recycled plastics emit less greenhouse gas emissions than its virgin counterparts. Secondly, AWYOCEAN tackles the growing problem of maritime plastic pollution. Lastly, recyclable AWYOCEAN packaging supports the circular economy approach”, states Carsten Wolansky, Managing Partner of AWANTYS Group.
Tailored to the needs of cosmetic brands
AWANTYS’ clients can choose among five zones in which the material for their AWYOCEAN packaging was collected by local communities, non-governmental institutions (NGOs) and public authorities. Both the sorting by type (currently, PP, HDPE, PET) and the processing of plastic scrap into granulate is done by a global network of recyclers. While each batch of AWYOCEAN material is then certified by third party laboratories validating its origin, clients also have the option to commission further validations of their material (e.g., REACH).
Leveraging AWANTYS’ 70 years of injection-molding expertise
AWYOCEAN material can be processed in existing and new conventional injection-molds – either in the European or Asian part of AWANTYS Group’s production footprint which is nowadays already manufacturing packaging components for clients such as Lalique Beauty, Coty or Maria Galland. The successfully completed injection-molding and decoration tests have allowed AWANTYS to gather a profound expertise in processing ocean plastics which the group can now draw on to realize industrial client projects.
