Design Case Study | Gin Anaë

Anaë is an organic French Gin distilled by hand and bottled in Charente. It was born from the desire to produce a Gin that reflects the best of nature and French know-how. Find out more about this pack that entered our PLD Innovation Awards 2022 on our exclusive design case study below.

Please describe the brief for the pack. What were the objectives for the innovation project? What were the requirements and constraints?

The Bollinger group is launching their very first spirit, an organic gin highlighting the French land’s craftmanship and richness. They chose Les Frenchy Agency to guide them in the creation of the packaging design and art direction of the new product.

The main objectives of this project were the following:

  • Embody the environmental and ethical commitments of the brand
  • To gather and federate a target group in search of meaning around this gin that values the natural heritage and French craftsmanship
  • To create a strong brand identity and packaging design while following an upcycling logic

How did the pack fulfil the brief? Please describe the technical innovations in the pack and the challenges they address?

According to the designers, “We had to find a design that was in a noble way keeping the brand’s artisanal spirit. Our challenge was to transcribe the commitments of Anaë gin with authenticity”.

“To do this, we decided to move away from classic craft cues and opted for a bottle with a pure design and chiseled engravings, to recall the precision and know-how of the House. Since the idea of reuse was one of the objectives of the project, this design was also thought to make people want to keep it for another use. As a detail, the engraving of Anaë’s A behind the label is an elegant reminder of the brand in case it was ever removed”.

The biggest technical challenge in the making was the bottle’s engravings. They are started with the hexagonal label, a technical and aesthetic success.

What makes this pack special?

This pack is special because of the project essence and its translation through the glass work. Inspired by the world of decoration and art table, our goal was to make people want to keep the bottle as a decanter. Today it is a successful bet, thanks to its vertical and diagonal lines that make the bottle dynamic and create a nice background light. This approach is part of an environmental initiative, at Les Frenchy we consider it as the design of tomorrow.
