Classic Laddie cuts carbon footprint with ‘major’ redesign

Bruichladdich Distillery Company Ltd. distillery has undertaken a packaging revamp for The Classic Laddie, resulting in a notable 65% reduction in carbon emissions for the single malt whisky. The new design is now consisted of 60% recycled glass and is 32% lighter than the previous bottle, claims the brand.

This single malt whisky producer is working towards improving its environmental impact. The lighter bottles will reduce distribution emissions. Another action undertaken by the company is the removal of the secondary packaging completely, which accounted for more than 1kg of CO2.

As an industry, we’ve become accustomed to believing that single malt Scotch whisky must come with outer packaging as standard. Where most other spirits travel around the world in just the bottle, the majority of single malts have an elaborate or heavy secondary outer pack. And it made us ask ourselves, why? Secondary packaging is not always necessary, and it’s certainly not sustainable” says Douglas Taylor, CEO at Bruichladdich Distillery.
