Wine: Intermarché transfers 15 million PET bottles

The transformation of entry-level wine bottles into PET persists on the shelves. This problem concerns 15 references, including seven PDO wines, the equivalent of 15 million bottles, reports Rayon Boissons.

Intermarché acts due to the shortage and the increase in prices. Demand has developed with the arrival of the first wines in PET – packaged for the Fiée des Lois, the subsidiary of the Mousquetaires – and affects about 15 references.

Stéphane Friez, a member of Castres and Head of Wine Sector at Intermarché, reports: “In the context of last year, it was either this or nothing. We therefore chose to be clear with the glassmakers and to take this risk. The risk is limited and accepted because, in any case, we would not have had the equivalent of these glass bottles”. This change only concerns entry-level wines, “for which the price is the reason for buying”, says Stéphane Friez.

On the shelves, this change does not disconcert the consumer from an aesthetic point of view.
