In December 2023, our prestigious jury of brands including Chanel, Dior, Interparfums and many others gathered to judge the PCD Innovation Awards. The finalists and winners of the PCD Innovation Awards were announced, recognised and applauded at Packaging Week in January 2023.

Please describe the brief for the pack. What were the objectives for the innovation project? What were the requirements and constraints?

The objective was to launch a limited edition with petals inside the bottle.

COTY R&D formula developed a specific jellified bulk (mix of alginate de calcium, gellan gum & agar) to allow petals floating in position in the bulk and not falling to the bottom.

The R&D packaging challenge was to find a compatible dispensing solution for this bulk and avoid it to be blocked by petals particles.

How did the pack fulfil the brief? Please describe the technical innovations in the pack and the challenges they address

We tried several pumps engines first in order to see which one could dispense properly the specific jellified formula.

Once the engine was selected, we used one of our innovative solution which was to place a filter at the end of the dip-tube to avoid particles of petals going inside the pump.

Several filtering range have been tested on different filters, and many ageing tests have been conducted to ensure the pump with its filter will perform well.

Final filter material is Polyethylene (POREX XM-1269).

Why do you believe this pack deserves to win an Innovation Award?

This technical solution is a first for such a specific fragrance and allow the legal restitution of the product without being blocked.

It is the first development in fragrance with an assembled Porex filter to a dip tube.

Without this filter, we would not have been able to launch such a beautiful combination of bulk with petals.
