Techniques de finition pour emballages en carton : laquelle choisir selon l’application ?

Finishing gives cartonboard packaging a distinctive look and feel. Metallic effects, embossing and coatings create targeted accents. The right technique depends on material, construction, design and production.

Cold foil can create metallic and holographic effects, while hot foil stamping is ideal for highlighting logos, lettering and decorative elements. Embossing, debossing and blind embossing add three-dimensional structures that can be both seen and felt.

Matt, gloss and spot coatings create targeted contrasts, while film lamination can modify the surface and increase resistance to external influences. Laser cutting adds further creative possibilities for particularly fine contours, patterns and lettering.

Different techniques can also be combined. However, more finishing does not automatically create a stronger result. The decisive factor is how well the effects support the packaging design, brand identity and technical requirements.
Recyclability should always be assessed based on the complete packaging structure – including cartonboard, coatings, foils and adhesives. Material choice, construction, finishing and recycling requirements should therefore be considered together from the beginning of the development process.
