What’s new at the 2024 edition of Paris Packaging Week?

Paris Packaging Week brought a host of novelties for its 2024 edition, highlighted in Part 1 of Formes de Luxe’s coverage.

Sonepro bets on cellulose

Full service packaging specialist Sonepro unveiled a textile bag made of 100% cellulose. Among other novelties, the supplier highlighted its molded pulp packaging for Nikka Whisky: From the Barrel. Made of 70% sugarcane by-products and 30% wood pulp, the pack includes a bottle, two glasses and a pourer. It features a built-in handle and metal rivets as a closing mechanism; these can be replaced by an embossed closure to keep the box 100% monomaterial. The supplier notes that different materials are possible, such as blends of cellulose with bamboo, recycled paper or other bio-based pulp.

Dahlinger invests in European production

Focusing on local production, German packaging and display manufacturer Dahlinger presented its latest rigid box offer dubbed Made in Europe. Made in the Czech Republic, where production debuted in 2023, the supplier is offering an alternative to Asian manufacturing using automatic, semi-automatic and manual processes. Although limited in the variety of designs due to machinery constraints, the supplier can produce FSC certified boxes with manual finishing and assembly.
