The codes of luxury: Valuable scientific knowledge for shaping perceptions through design

Scientific research shows how multiple design elements can influence reactions to a product: attracting attention, arousing emotion, activating beliefs, shaping sensory perceptions, and consequently stimulating purchase and consumption experience. Some of this fascinating research reveals how particular (and sometimes unsuspected) design elements automatically activate perceptions related to ‘premium/luxury’. This conference will present an overview of these influencing elements and their relevance for creating and (re)positioning products and brands in this niche.
